While visiting some of British Columbia’s most beautiful outdoor, rural and urban locations, youth will work closely with English instructors to improve their English. Instead of learning in a traditional stationary classroom setting, FESLA youth travel and reside at a number of alternative learning settings such an ecological centre, ski resort, youth hostel and outdoor camping over a 21-day period. Fireside ESL Adventures Program Highlights:
What is the Fireside International Youth Leadership Program all about?British Columbia is one of Canada’s most popular provinces to tour, explore and camp. Our international youth leadership program is about giving our leaders the skills, knowledge and confidence to be self-propelled youth leaders of their generation. Participants are supported and taught in how to lead themselves, develop a stronger sense of who they are and to learn the value of teamwork throughout the duration of the program. Our international program is for Canadian and global youth of all languages and cultures wanting a leadership training program that is inclusive, exciting and rewarding. Youth strive to understand their world and are eager to discover their leadership potential. Our 21-day program is a great educational stepping stone for youth to reach their vision. International youth discover leadership through our program’s six leadership competency elements: Individual Leadership, Community Leadership, Global Knowledge, Practical Skills, Vision and Values. Individual Leadership – each youth will decide some of the individual foundation pieces that can make them a strong and effective leader. Community Leadership – the group will work together to build a strong leadership team and foundation before providing community service to a few local non-profit organizations Global Knowledge – the group will learn about a few relevant global and local issues centered around environment, politics, culture and leadership styles Practical Skills – supporting youth with becoming more competent with camping skills, navigation, decision making and life skills Vision and Values – participants will spend time reflecting upon the experience and write a vision letter of what they hope to accomplish. All youth will learn about the five Fireside leadership values: Trust, Respect, Responsibility, Commitment and Perseverance. We hire qualified staff to lead, teach and guide the entire 21-day program. Our staff are dedicated to providing the best experience they can possibly offer. Fireside staff must have a valid driver’s license, wilderness first aid and/or First Responder training, life guarding, outdoor wilderness training, criminal record check, post secondary education, and English-teaching ability. |
